Course Details and Registration

Course Overview

The challenge of reversing the obesity epidemic has highlighted the need for new ways to teach complex skill sets which effectively target lifestyle behaviors, particularly diet and physical activity. Most health professionals (apart from registered dieticians) have little or no training in the science of nutrition, diet, physical activity, and facilitating behavior change.

This Obesity course provides an excellent overview of obesity medicine, focusing on nutrition, lifestyle, behavior change, and case management while integrating pharmacological and surgical options and covering childhood, adolescent, and adult populations.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the complexity of the development and treatment of obesity.
  2. Apply best practice approaches to preventing and treating pediatric and adolescent obesity.
  3. Identify, classify and determine appropriate treatment approaches for people with obesity, including lifestyle, advanced pharmacological approaches, and bariatric surgery.
  4. Create treatment plans for people with obesity that include motivational interviewing, behavior modification, and nutrition and physical activity plans.
